Testing and usage

Correction of an error or adding your own “missing” points of interest is simply a process to go to the map corrections screen and select one of several options – everything from share and blocking roads and reversing direction to the processing street and place names, and also by lack of roads. In practice, however, I found myself sticking with the built-in speakers have, because the volume was not as strong as I would have liked. I had to turn up the volume on my stereo system to listen to music and clear directions, and that made small scratches and FM interference extremely annoying. Planning complex itineraries is not as easy as it could be either – you can not just keep adding waypoints to your present route as one with a million navigation devices, for example. Instead, you must begin by rejecting the plan not as an itinerary rather than a default route, but at least the function.

Conclusion

I must apologize if this review has read in some places a bit like a large list of features, but to give you a good idea of exactly what can make the TomTom Go 720, it has. And I have not covered every single feature is not here. Suffice it to say, the TomTom Go 720 is the most capable, feature-packed, easy-to-use and innovative in-car navigation device on the market today. And under 300, it is not terribly expensive. It is rare when a single company dominates a sector for more than a few months, especially in today’s buy-it, use-it, throw it away, move, and on-to-the-next-big- cultural thing. But that is exactly what TomTom has managed to do with Go 720 in the past nine months in the United Kingdom. I have reviewed many competing products in that time, and no manufacturer has yet managed to whose mind blowing combination of groundbreaking new features, robust routing, navigation, large and excellent usability. And fight even though according to recent reports the company in order to make ends meet, no mobile phone software has managed to come close to it either.

But now the end is near the 720, 520 and 920. They are replaced by the x30 series soon, and the top end model – the 930 – is the first to make it into our greedy hands.

The first thing you’ll notice that very little changed physically. Not that this is a bad thing: it still boasts distinctive and attractive half moon shape, it still sports the same bright and clear 4.3in screen and other attributes are just as good. The design oozes quality, with a soft-touch plastic rear and strongly arched latch to lock it on the windshield mount. I was immediately impressed. TomTom also has this better than any other navigation system I’ve seen implemented. The 930 also has Bluetooth phone for hands-free operation (it will even read text to you as they come in) plus a Bluetooth remote control. It has an FM transmitter, so you can wirelessly to your car radio and sound and light sensors, so that the volume and screen brightness are automatically adjusted based on conditions in the car cabin. And let us not forget that you enter the address data by voice recognition. Amazing how the 720, this works brilliantly, allowing you to divert to alternative destinations while keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the steering wheel.

Last but not least, we come to the only drawback Go 930 Traffic is – the price. Unfortunately the price up to this time, and this is now the most expensive Navigation Tom Tom shot. The 930 costs whopping 400 – 50 more than the 920T will replace it eventually. Of course, you do not have to buy the top-of-the-range model – the 730 Traffic has the same features minus the maps of Russia, Canada and the USA for EUR 330 in the plane 730 without TMC 300 and the United Kingdom and Ireland variant is less still available at 280 and 250 for transport and non-traffic version. But the 730 is still significantly more expensive than the 720, for example, and the 530 more than the 520 who come, however, are at the end of their shelf life, both still available online and can for around 180 and 160 to have respectively.

Conclusion

Thus, the additions are worth the extra money? For now, I would say – surprisingly – no. The new x30 range undoubtedly maintains the 720′s position as king of in-car satellite navigation devices with its improved pathfinding skills and lane assist. But the changes, though innovative and useful, are not the kind of major improvements that you had to upgrade, and while stocks of the x20 series are still available to provide the older models a better offer.

If you want the ultimate in-car navigation system, money is no object and you have not already, the 930 and the slightly less expensive brothers are sure the device to beat. But I recommend you wait a while before buying one until the price falls of 50 or so.

Updated for 2010-2011, add the TomTom Go series of GPS devices a few new features to its bag of tricks. Finally, at the bottom of the Go-chassis is a proprietary connection point for its 12-volt power cord. The power cable uses a 20-pin connector and locks into the go-chassis with a pair of small magnets. The power cord is connected to a line receiver for the FM RDS-TMC traffic and can block in the base of the car cradle.

The car cradle itself is equipped with a suction cup that snaps into a car windshield with a rotating knob. A ball joint at the base of the cradle to the neck is the only point of articulation. A strong magnet in the face of the cradle hold on the Go’s embedded metal back plate. This nice feature, combined with the locked-in power cord makes it easy to place and remove the TomTom Go from the cradle with one hand while entering or exiting the vehicle.

Verdict

Our first impression of the new Go 2505 TM model is that it is probably best that TomTom has ever made. Routing is faster than ever before, the interface behaves much more consistently and is easier to navigate and the hardware has a grace that both aesthetically attractive and well used.

However, ask the capacitive touch-sensitivity and other features compared with Garmin nuvi 3790T, and – apart from a few quibbles interface and the obvious difference in form factor – the devices are usually the same. However, the Garmin voice command system to learn more consistent and easier to use. Then again, the TomTom sits lower than the super thin Garmin, so that the Go 2505 TM is a much better value.

Like most GPS navigation device manufacturer TomTom has stagnated’s all a bit lately, but this is rapidly changing. The TomTom Go 2405 TM offers a revised user interface and a nice glass capacitive touch screen, like the Garmin nuvi 3790T, current Editors’ Choice for high-end GPS devices. The 2405 TM not quite measure to the nuvi 3790T in some ways, but in others, especially on the price and the lack of ads-the TM 2405 is even better.

Design, monitor, and magnetization direction of Mount

The TM 2405 measures 3.2 by 5.0 by 0.8 inches (HWD) and weighs 7.6 ounces. It is not nearly as thin or smooth as the Garmin 3790T, thanks to a bulge in the middle. The 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen provides smooth, light and sweet with the frame plastic. It must, however, still sports the same 480-by-272 pixel resolution than older TomTom devices, not the 800-by-480 resolution on the 3790T. You can swipe between menu screens with a finger, as if on a smartphone. That is, my test unit seemed a little buggy and I could never work the multi-touch zoom on the cards, because it always brought the main menu, even though I was very careful when implementing the gesture.

On the other hand, click TomTom is a new two-piece Easy Mount excellent. Unlike the previous EasyPort on TomTom devices installed, new installation is completely magnetized. POIs and route setup

There are seven million points of interest (POIs), plus preloaded maps for the U.S., Canada and Mexico, in 2405 pre-installed on the TM. TomTom also free lifetime map updates, four times a year, you can hook the device up to your PC and download the latest maps.

Enter an address is easy and you can stack routes easily accessible from the main screen without having to get a special multi-segment routing mode. That is, it must be suppressed at least one or two too many button, checked my test device only twice if I wanted to enter a new route, even if it is not a pre-programmed, over-looked. Navigation

Once on the street were card graphics are much sharper and detailed than a previous TomTom GPS we’ve tested. Main roads were outlined, with separate lanes for complex trips. As the Tom Tom XL 550-TM, the Go 2405 TM handles traffic information well. It shows a vertical bar on the right side of the LCD during navigation, that shows upcoming delays and the length and distance to the first delay. You can click on the slide and get a detailed look at traffic that you go through accident and design data along the route. Every time I become a GPS test traffic reports in more detail than last time, to improve as a third party data sources (at a snail’s pace). The TM Go 2405 also has a useful Bluetooth hands-free, so you can pair your phone with you and use it as a speakerphone while driving. While many new cars now use this function as part of the stereo, do not come all, and most older cars do not have it at all.

Other Features

I noticed some other errors in the review. Soon after arrival at Trader Joe’s, which registered 2405 TM, the route never be complete, but strangely, it also appears from the destination from the current route. The Garmin nuvi 3790T remains our Editors’ Choice, thanks to its much thinner design, higher resolution and beautiful 3D terrain mapping. But the 3790T annoying advertising displays its traffic reports, and it is $ 150 more expensive. If your budget does not stretch quite that far, but you want a device that looks and feels up-to-date, the TomTom Go 2405 TM will serve you well for the next few years. Two other solid options: the Magellan RoadMate 5045-LM and the above-mentioned TomTom XL 550-TM step on plastic resistive touch screens, not as the appealing, but both offer good value and solid performance Navigation for even less money.

The TomTom XL 550TM is a GPS navigation device with a 5-inch LCD screen with voice prompts, and the lifetime map and live traffic information. TomTom belong to their new menu interface with this model and it makes it even easier to use.

The TomTom XL 550TM measures 5.2 x 0.9 x 3.4-inch (HWD) and weighs just shy of 9-ounce, which makes it very light and compact. The 5-inch LCD screen on the front of the TomTom XL 550TM looks good, but the colors seem washed out a bit. The touch input works so-so, please enter a firm and even missed a couple of pushes. The device is also a predictive type function that works well and came up with accurate forecasts.

TomTom offers free lifetime map updates and real-time traffic information as well as with the device (only 550TM). This route data from the real world from their GPS devices collected for your device to determine the best routes for future trips. This allows to know the 550TM, which routes work best in the real world at certain times of the day, like rush hour or on weekends.
