Sony today announced a sharp break with its past insistence on in-house GPS and showed two AV and navigation systems that use TomTom GPS. The six-inch XNV-660BT-770BT and seven inches XNV use TomTom mapping in IQ Routes, the fastest route to transport distance is not only historic, and community-source points of interest by MapShare based attacks and bring lane assist. Either unit has a full set of maps for North America replaced with a year’s worth of card upgrades.
Although separated by screen sizes, both have a 800×480 resolution, support Bluetooth calling, a rear wire USB port for an iPhone or iPod connection and virtual 5.1-channel surround audio. The 660BT is relatively easy to hide with a solid display and hard buttons below the touchscreen, the 770BT has to keep touch sensitive physical button and a motorized screen like on Nokia 7705 Twist Phone. Both have media playback features for music and video, as well as a picture-in-picture sound control.
Sony expects both mapping systems delivered in November, starting at $ 1,000 for the 660BT and moving up to $ 1300 for the 770BT.
