Escort is a brand that is probably best known for its line of radar and laser detectors, but it has its toes wet in the world of GPS and his entourage line of GPS vehicle locator last year. Today has continued to escort into the world of GPS, with its first portable navigation device, the Passport iQ (if the smart mirror that is barely viable count) increased. And because old habits die hard, they have crammed a radar and laser detector in its chassis for good measure.

On the surface, the Passport iQ looks like a standard for portable navigation devices. It has a 5-inch touchscreen, NAVTEQ maps showing 3D delivered and installed on the windshield with a suction cup to attach. The unit has spoken turn-by-turn directions, graphic lane guidance, and – as many navigation devices we’ve tested – shows the current speed limit, if available. But where normal GPS devices, the ability to overlay POI icons for gas stations, hotels offer, and the like, the Passport iQ able to overlay Escort Database icons marking Defender’s red-light cameras, speed cameras and speed traps known. A 90-day trial version of the Defender is here with the unit, after which a subscription will be required included. Things get interesting when escort mentioned that it was integrated with a fully functional radar and laser detector based on Passport 9500ix detector. This means that the passport to monitor the situation in iQ, X, K, Ka and Ku-band radar speed, and laser bands. IQ offers the Escort’s autolearn function which automatically identifies and analyzes sources of radar, such as automatic door locks of false alarms or motion detectors. Users can create a wide range of radar information on the device display with the outbreaks of the strength of the different bands of detection. Users can also overlay the radar detection information on the navigation screen, and vice versa.
iQ The Escort Passport is at a MSRP of $ 649.99 or about the same price as the purchase of the above Passport 9500ix ($ 499) and an inexpensive GPS device of similar size like on Garmin nuLink! 1695 GPS. For this price, gets the user the convenience of just fiddling with a device, while in and out of the car, compatibility with the Escort line of accessories (such as questionable legal ZR4 laser switch), and will probably never even said during Escort, a some radar detector stealth and deniability in states where radar detectors are illegal. Escort iQ also has plans for a second version of the Passport, that the Bluetooth hands-free calling and traffic data includes announced. In this price range, this is the one we would wait.
