The DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 handheld GPS is rugged and water resistant, precise, very fast when rendering maps and pictures, comes with lots of cards and can highly detailed maps from the vast online library DeLorme Download – all the great features in a hand-held GPS . It has its disadvantages, as well as a smaller display compared with some of the newer models from Garmin, and controls that require a bit of a learning process. Overall, however, it is an excellent receiver that I depend on outside in the toughest conditions.

The PN-40 is the second PN-Series Handheld DeLorme in the line of the PN-20 forward, which I write here. The PN-20 is yellow and black, while the PN-40 is internationally organge and black. The PN-20 pioneer map and image display and started layering DeLorme’s consumer-friendly map bundling packages. The PN-20 processors are a bit under-powered, but for its advanced rendering capabilities, slowing its response.

DeLorme, which healed in the PN-40 by the fitting of a dual-core processor. Satellite acquisition tasks are handled by a fast, high sensitivity 32-channel STMicroelectronics Cartesio chipset. The result is a fast start, fast position fixes and updates, and almost immediate display of maps and pictures, how to change the display position or zoom in and out.

BUY DELORME EARTHMATE PN-40 GPS NOW AT A SPECIAL REDUCED PRICE!

Also on the technical side, the PN-40, a new altimeter function, the air pressure data with GPS data for a smooth and accurate height information has links. The PN-40 is WAAS-enabled, and classifies 3-meter accuracy, and I experienced an excellent accuracy to known points in the field. In support of the mega-library card I describe below, supports the PN-40 high-capacity SD cards (up to 32 GB) for fast, direct map transfer and storage of thousands of map and image data.

DeLorme is for inclusion much value card in each bundle praised, for the ample storage capacity for maps, pictures and graphic data and the computing power to all of them quickly accessible in the PN-40. Even better is DeLorme’s “all you can download” subscription to its online map, chart, and aerial photo library for $ 29.95 per year. You really need the detailed, 7.5-minute quad maps for trips in the wilderness, and with the full library is available and easily downloadable is a boon for the outdoor enthusiast.

I have applauded some of the newer, novice-friendly handheld GPS receivers like the Garmin Oregon, you can take it literally and without consulting the manual. The PN-40 is not in that category, and you will be studying the manual and playing with the buttons for a while before you are ready to navigate. That is, I got used to its button and menu system with a little practice and rarely got lost in the menus after a short ramp-up. The same applies to the USA Topo PC software. Topo USA, but has a lot of routing and other features that outdoor enthusiasts and professionals devoted to appreciate.

BUY DELORME EARTHMATE PN-40 GPS NOW AT A SPECIAL REDUCED PRICE!

I have downloaded the PN-40 for several hiking and Geocaching trips, and its speed, accuracy and usefulness of 7.5 minutes quad maps and aerial photographs are excellent. Its color dislpay (2.3 inches diagonal) is sharp and the brightness is adjustable and visible in direct sunlight. His prominent raised buttons can be easily operated with one hand shoes.

The PN-40 is classified as a water-tight, and it survived my immersion test without leakage. It is very stable and designed with a rubberized back, and feels firmly in hand. The sealed battery cover screws with D-ring screws and the tray also protects the SD-Card slot of elments. A flat-screen contact USB port is clog-proof and keeps the skin waterproof. I had no problem quickly capture and hold satellite signals in thick trees and narrow ledges. Overall it is a confidence-inspiring receiver I would trust in the toughest conditions.

Earthmate comes with DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2004 in the software for desktop computers and laptops. You will need to fork out an extra $ 40 for a portable version, which supports both Pocket PC and Palm platforms. This program allows you to choose which network you want to sync to your PDA. Atlas Street supports voice-guided route, has more than 4 million points of interest (POI), such as ATMs, restaurants, gas stations and major attractions, and also allows the creation of a route “on the fly.” At the grassroots level maps of the New York tristate region requires 28MB of RAM. The user interface allows you to clearly marked menu tabs to create routes, export maps as well as the creation of point-to-point directions. Kit also includes Bluetooth and alternating current (cigarette lighter) power chargers, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, desktop version of Street Atlas USA 2004, and nine-pin serial cable for those who do not have a laptop USB.

We were generally pleased with the ability to bind to the Earthmate requires four satellite signals in 40 seconds, although it is no better than other parts of the GPS (with the exception of Belkin GPS) in midtown Manhattan tests. Our test vehicle was also positive, the signal retention Earthmate and tracking accuracy were in place. Battery, rated up to 7 hours of life in the power plant, gave us just that, with a few spare minutes.
