On the hardware front, the new Go 2405 TM and 2505 TM function, above all, a new glass capacitive touch screen, a metal chassis with a sleek asymmetrical design and a smart new car cradle design that makes mounting and the removal of the go easier than ever. In the Navigator, the new skin a shiny new version of TomTom software is with tweaks, enjoy the benefits of swipey, made it possible to pinch zoomy quality through the new touch-screen. TomTom also specifies the feature with Bluetooth hands-free, lifetime traffic and map updates, and voice command set.
Design
The TomTom Go series models around the standard touchscreen on a suction cup form factor built. The 2505TM has a 5-inch display. The Go’s glass capacitive touch screen is very bright, the glare could be a problem in certain situations, but the screen is bright enough to stay visible during daylight hours. At the top left corner of the device is an insidious power switch that doubles as a charging status light. Around back is an attractive asymmetrical back the speaker’s Go hide behind a grid.

Finally, at the bottom of the Go-chassis is a proprietary connection point for its 12-volt power cord. The power cable uses a 20-pin connector and locks into the go-chassis with a pair of small magnets. The power cord is connected to a line receiver for the FM RDS-TMC traffic and can block in the base of the car cradle.
The car cradle itself is equipped with a suction cup that snaps into a car windshield with a rotating knob. A ball joint at the base of the cradle to the neck is the only point of articulation. A strong magnet in the face of the cradle hold on the Go’s embedded metal back plate. This nice feature, combined with the locked-in power cord makes it easy to place and remove the TomTom Go from the cradle with one hand while entering or exiting the vehicle.

The TomTom Go is missing a SD or microSD card slot, and the decision to go with the proprietary power cable meant that the GPS-mini-USB port, which was usually the standard output and synchronize joint loses. and that’s good, but it can be difficult to replace, if installed – now must use a PC to update maps and software, users with a proprietary USB adapter to connect.
Interface
The update on the Go Series hardware is also an update for the software that was it. Now navigate the maps and menus is much faster thanks in part to more touch-screen, but also because of the new WebKit-based operating system. The Go-series “Home screen” is a variation of the interface that we’ve seen on the newer XL and XXL models, with two large icons dominate the upper two-thirds of the screen for navigating to … And “View Map”. These two symbols stand for the TomTom both target selection methods. The former is in the menu and search-based while the latter is the visual and map-based.

The lower third is home to a collection of smaller icons for Route Planner, Services, Settings, Help, and Finish. Route planner where users can continue to save complex and multi-stop trips. Services is where information may be the transport, security cameras and map correction services are found. Settings, the home of the settings. Behind the icon using the navigation option is to emergency services, implementation of your current position and an electronic product manual. Finally, the live events of the user card.
Speaking of map screens, the TomTom Go two of them. The live card is the main screen while navigating used that updates in real time with the position of the vehicle and displays turn-by-turn directions. Touching anywhere to live on the map takes the user to the main menu, so it’s not very interactive. The second card is the browser-card, retrieved from the main menu “View Map” icon. The surf board is to search for destinations and points of interest uses, and can be used to initialize a new trip or change the current trip. This card can be scrolled and zoomed by brushing and pinching, and features user-selectable POI icons. First, we found the dual card setup is a little confusing.

TomTom tells us that the live map a low-distraction interface for use when the vehicle is in motion, while the card surfing a more flexible, interactive screen that comes into play when the vehicle is stopped and the user can fully to devote attention to the device. This all makes a strange kind of sense, and by time with the device on the road, we got the cards and their respective capabilities and limitations vary. However, we could not help thinking that other manufacturers appear somehow juggling this with just a single card.
Users are a fairly large amount of flexibility over the menu and map interfaces given. Users can display the color of the card, the amount of data in the status bar at the bottom of the map, or completely move the status bar to a vertical orientation at the right edge of the screen. There is also an option called allow users to link user on the live card are able to choose to make your own menu – for example, links to the reference to the phone menu, the nearest parking garage, voice command for their system or Enter address, muting sound or contacting emergency services. Two or fewer of these links directly on the map display screen, and the selection of three or more creates a fly-out menu.

Features
After a brief pairing with a Bluetooth-enabled phone, the TomTom Go, the ability to act as a speakerphone for hands-free. access support in a phone book (PBAP) means that the TomTom, the user address book for quick dial from the phone menu or voice command, which we shall return to later download.
When the power cord is connected with integrated RDS-TMC receiver, you can receive and display Go-series traffic data. On the map this data manifests as color overlays for major roads and streets with red indicating serious congestion and green to a healthy river. While navigating a traffic bar on the right edge of the map screen shows similar color-coded with symbols travels of the traffic flow is expected delays in the time estimated it would cost along the selected route. The Go-units have a voice command system that is not strongly featured in the promotional materials or in the manual. There are actually two parts: address entry and general voice commands.

The address input part appears on-screen keyboard like a little microphone icon, but users can also create a shortcut to this function with the “Make your own menu” option in the settings. Once activated, calls on the screen and voice asking the user to the city, street name and house number before presenting the user with turn-by-turn directions to the selected destination. All entries and confirmations are handled by voice, once the process begins, the driver may be feasible to hold hands on the steering wheel.
On the other side of the coin, the general Voice Activation Voice Command and Control is an option. This feature is hidden under the “Make your own menu” option and is in good faith not from any other menu. In fact, the only other reference that we could find in the electronic product manual in the Help menu.

Before planning to use the voice command system, users should plan to take a few minutes time browsing the “What can I say?” Part of this publication, as is the activation of the Voice Command and Control System the user does not have instructions on the screen and no voice cues for what are expected to voice commands. It simply asks that you “Say a command”. This adds an additional level of difficulty of the learning curve, as opposed to a unit like the Garmin nuvi 3790T. However, once the commands are learned, the TomTom Go’s voice command enable system a user to do everything from initiating a speakerphone call to the nearest gas station to redirect any traffic jams to navigate, and make Map Share corrections with little more than the sound of her voice .
Performance
We are not sure whether it is the more powerful hardware, faster WebKit-based interface or TomTom IQ Routes new algorithms at work, but the Go 2505 TM was lightning fast when it came to choosing routes. Thanks to a very thorough set of options that will also be set up to, for example, always ask about routing type, ask if you are car-pooling plan, or automatically routing even a target, without elected to the confirmation . These and dozens of other small decisions can make the user in planning and Settings Advanced Options menu the user a good degree of flexibility in streamlining target selection, and routing with the go.

Once driving, the Go TM 2505TM proved quite accurate in what we as reasonable operating conditions. Of course, long tunnels and urban canyons lined with skyscrapers all GPS devices give a hard time, the TomTom Go is no exception.
Turn-by-turn directions were spoken loud and clear and delivered in a timely manner, that no dangerous last-minute-breaks will almost missed prevented. And when the road was full, the Go presents us with occasional alternative routes available around the congestion. Nice touches such as displaying the speed limit as a symbol and provides visual warnings for traffic cameras to help drivers who live unnecessary cards and the possibility of POI icons on the map can help users, an emergency service station looking indicator set without a goal.

Verdict
Our first impression of the new Go 2505 TM model is that it is probably best that TomTom has ever made. Routing is faster than ever before, the interface behaves much more consistently and is easier to navigate and the hardware has a grace that both aesthetically attractive and well used.
However, ask the capacitive touch-sensitivity and other features compared with Garmin nuvi 3790T, and – apart from a few quibbles interface and the obvious difference in form factor – the devices are usually the same. However, the Garmin voice command system to learn more consistent and easier to use. Then again, the TomTom sits lower than the super thin Garmin, so that the Go 2505 TM is a much better value.
