The Garmin Forerunner 301 is a runner’s dream. There is a small, compact training device that can monitor the user, pace, heart rate, altitude, distance, and a number of averages. At first glance, any runner would love for this device only for the ability to remove, without have to determine get into the car in miles mark. Combined with logbook software, has developed Garmin, which seems to run the perfect companion.
The Forerunner 301 is a small GPS unit that is designed for fitness. It is not only useful for runners, but it can also biking, hiking are applied and any other sport, knowing where your speed, distance, heart rate and speed are important. The Forerunner of the included software also lets you set up interval training, use preinstalled workouts and plot your course on the map.
I have the Forerunner for three weeks, logging about 80 miles. Usually I trotted along the coast of Seattle, but on weekends I jogged from home on wooded country roads. The GPS device works by tracking points and continuously averaging the data obtained. Even if it was to show the watch to a weak GPS signal is rare, they lost the signal more often than I would have liked.
This loss of signal is clear, while running, if the constant speed shown varies considerably. If you want to increase your speed, there is always a delay from which to restore unity. Because of this delay, the functions seen on the training, such as virtual partners and other speed/distance monitors, very little sense to turn to more of a novelty. Although most of my running distances were accurate, threw the constant change of pace time me off. When I try to keep a steady pace, it seemed like I always speeding up or slowing down.

(Both 6-mile jogs along the coast of Seattle) on two occasions, the distance was recorded by the clock a quarter of a mile away. There was no obvious reason for this (no trees, no tall buildings), it was a quarter of a mile just disappeared.
Now, this may not a big deal, some runners, but I assume that if someone is willing to shell out $ 300 for a GPS Clock, a quarter of a mile is a big deal. And since there is no edit function on the logbook software your records never will amount to 100%.
The heart rate monitor is useful if you want to practice by certain percentage of the maximum speed, but many times my heart rate would be around 224 bpm for no apparent reason climax. The monitor sensors work well on my sweater in a chest, but I would lose the signal occasionally.
The software that comes with the device is interesting and it’s fun to see your land with the background, but the card is not very detailed and there is no edit function for when the clock is wrong or if you happen to jog to observe without the logs and you would still accurate.

There are Internet sites to which you, your workouts that much more detailed maps, graphics, downloads, etc. Motionbased.com the one I tried. The free membership gives you access to most features, but you can only your last 10 workouts. For $ 11.95 per month you get full access. This page was interesting because other runners’ maps and training in terms of new ideas in your area.
Finally, I have decided to keep with my operating pedometer. It is not as accurate as the GPS on his best days, but I can still run trails and I do not want to constantly check my clock for quarter-mile error.
