What make a difference a year in the GPS market. Early 2008, Garmin introduced its top-of-the-line nuvi 880. The 880 was the first portable GPS voice recognition capabilities for virtually all of the commands function. Now, one year later, shows the Nuvi 880 to Garmin’s list of discontinued products and is replaced by the nuvi 885T. But it also adds in some new goodies, and best of all, it lists for $ 200 less than the 880. That’s still flooded a high price in a market with very capable products for hundreds of dollars less. Fortunately, the 885T is worth what you pay for.

Just as you pursue a nearly perfect product? The answer is very carefully. Garmin cautious approach is in the 885T, which do not break really shows a ton of new channels. The 3.1-by-4-0 .7 .9-by-inch (HWD) case and the 4.3-inch, 480 are-from-272-pixel WQVGA display identical to the 880th In fact, while writing this review, I had the 880 and the 885T side by side on my account, to compare features, and sometimes it was hard to tell them apart. The 885T, like the 880, has an MSN Direct receiver is integrated into the power cable. Both models use the same mounting system device snaps into the mount, where he gets his power and data signals. It is easy to mount or remove the device with one hand.
Although both models are equipped with MSN Direct, the 885T offers have some advanced features. The weather tracking has been improved. In addition to forecasts, there is a Doppler radar view of your local weather. Another new feature, flight status, you can check on the status of arriving and departing flights from airports near. I’ve run into a minor software error, however. When I check the flight status at Newark Liberty Airport knocking on a flight caused the device to reboot. (Insert your favorite New Jersey joke here.) I had no problems at check flights at New York’s La Guardia airport. Garmin is checked in the output. Other MSN Direct offers included on the 880 include live traffic information, fuel prices, movies, stock quotes, local events and news.

For me, when your hands are free of traffic laws in my state and how much I my cell phone, use a solid hands-free Bluetooth interface is an appeal must be in a GPS. And Garmin products have the best Bluetooth interfaces of any brand of GPS devices I tested. Like its predecessor, the 885T has worked very well with my LG VX9900 and provided full access to call on my cell phone contact list and history.
Garmin has finally conceded lane assist with junction view to the features of the nuvi 885T. The Lane Assistant shows you the correct lane for upcoming maneuvers, while crossing the concrete shows signs of complex inter-state junctions. Garmin first introduced these features in its 7100 in the summer of 2007, and Magellan was followed by their Maestro 4350 and 4370. Garmin still has some catching up, however.

Hands On
Perhaps the most compelling feature is the voice recognition. Like the 880, the 885T responds to commands for most functions voice. A small wireless two-button switch that you can strap your steering wheel is, the device is in list mode. Press only the larger of the two buttons and say a command such as “where”, “View Map”, “Tools” and so on. Numbered menu selection displayed on the screen and speak the appropriate number of the menu item. About the only thing you can not voice input text (specific address information, for example) and for this you must use the onscreen keyboard. Like its predecessor, the 885T can be seen surprisingly precise words spoken, especially since you do not have to train the unit. A constraint-if you control your voice to the Nuvi, you need to turn down your car radio.

The menu structure and navigation experience on the 885T are very similar to what they were on the 880. However, there are some subtle improvements to the navigation screen, the 885T give a slight edge over its predecessor. First, are the screen on the 880, the zoom in/out icons on the opposite sides. On the 885T, they are clustered together in the upper right corner. On the 880, the text shows on top of the screen, the direction for your next train and the name of the street (“Right on Main Street” for example), but the distance is to the turn in a box appears at the bottom right corner of the screen. On the 885T, the text says at the top of the screen “Main Street”; immediately on the left side, there is a graphic with an arrow and the distance to the turn. You get all the information you need on your next turn with a single glance at the screen, while on the 880, you need at the top of the screen to check read the directions and then turn in the lower right for the distance to. The 885T displays the current speed in the lower left corner of the screen. I like the speed displayed on the screen during navigation, it saves a glance at the speedometer. Although these subtle differences are, I think the 885T offers a slightly better navigation experience as the 880.
