Garmin nuvi 765T Review

I spent some time over the past weekend with two different Nuvi 765T unit. Departments have already returned, and I thought that after the next obsevations, to help anyone out there who are “on the fence” about buying this unit may be to replace them with 7 × 0. Many things which I will comment really been mentioned here and in other places before, but I’ll include them, despite the fact that for the sake of completeness. This is in most cases will compare and highlight the differences between units. All comments are only my opinion and I’m sure others here will feel very differently. Both units have been upgraded to the latest software versions 2.50 units.

Overall, the use and feel

Despite new and more powerful processor, 765 has a sluggish feel in general use. Map updates the screen when you move were fantastic and very smooth. Bravo Garmin on this issue. I feel there is sluggishness has more in common with the navigation system menus on the screen changes to “Auto” in / out, but not instantaneously change. On the “hump” was also somewhat abruptly, as compared to redraw the map that were very smooth. I prefer the menu system used 7 × 0, as it just feels snappier and faster.

LCD observations

Both units were brighter used in LCD-over 7 × 0 series. Touch screen sensitivity is average …not as bad as some of the troops, which I used, but not as good as my current 760 which is very sensitive and a joy to use. However, as * * from LCD devices have been problems with regard to the screen of misinterpretation, especially in the bottom button row. Many times you press works not on this button, but one of them thus causing a variety of media than expected.Despite the many screen calibration again, I could not solve the problem, and even tried to cheat by pressing button slightly to the left / right / up / down, which requires calibration of the press. Using the diagnostic mode, press the test page (also available on the 7 × 0) showed random errors of a touch screen, since some of them far compared to where I clicked. Test icon “jump” at random area of about 10% of the time, mostly just above where I clicked.

Screen panning / dragging painfully slow and very difficult. Given the rapid redraw the map, I do not really understand why this happens is if it is somehow linked with a touch screen, since my 760 (with sensitive LCD) is very fast and smooth on the map panning.

New Features

The new user interface and lane guidance was very helpful, and I want my 7 × 0, if it is.Nevertheless, I found that the transition opinion is very annoying times that he came up, because all you see that the screen seconds of time. There is no way to disable it via the menu system, but I managed to get the device to not use it just rename the file of the transition in X: / Garmin / folders JCV.

New map zoom button placement is perfect and very comfortable. Initially, the new zoom in / out movement is impressive, but after a while, I just wanted to directly zoom in and out, as 7 × 0 series. I felt that the new scale no faster than the old … but it was cool to watch, though.

3D buildings was also useless for me since I use a 2D-only mode. Even if I did use the 3D-mode, I would disable this feature, as it has done nothing to my understanding of the situation. In fact, it can be fun for some people, because you have to be really watching the road while driving, not looking at 3D rendered building on-screen GPS.

Ability to customize data fields is also a positive change that I want to 7 × 0 in it … I’ll miss this feature with my old 7 × 0

Rubbish

North pointer back again. Thanks Garmin!

I already can not use voice dialing with my RAZR (Verizon) phone 765. My 760 works fine voice dialing.

Your favorite names no longer appear on the map screen. The boy really annoyed me to heaven.I rely on seeing the names of the Favorite, along with an icon on the map, and with them went to was a big deal for me. Favorite icon size was also increased slightly, which may be good, but could not see his name, is quite meaningless to me.

Map screen can no longer display the same detail as 7 × 0 series. Smaller streets to show only 0.03 miles and below, while the 7 × 0 series can display the same streets at 0.05 and 0.08 of a mile. I think that-may-see reasons for this failure … map of streets and turns, seems a higher degree of smoothing (AA) is applied, thus giving a smoother appearance. However, if the same amount of AA were used to map the “most” detailed installation 7 × 0 series, they will all blur together.

Upcoming street names no longer appear as a 7 × 0 units. Only the name of the street / road you are currently being displayed instead. I heard that the upcoming display the street has been removed due to the fact that another manufacturer has the right to display the data coming street. In any case, this is another step back.

Options volume is no longer saved between fact cradle and battery power. If you set the volume of units for 90% of say, being the cradle of power, and you’ll run the battery in your home, the device will still be set at 90% by volume. You end up with a very loud device from the battery / indoors until you turn the volume back down or mute it. When you re-holder in the car, you again have to activate or increase the backup. I found it very annoying because I use the device in the room often, and constantly have to disable / enable the microphone unit was just silly. 7 × 0 series keeps setting the volume to be the cradle / battery-powered just fine.
